Make some predictions about the book. What do you think it's going to be about?
On the next blank page in your interactive notebook let’s write “Predictions” at the top of the page. On the next line begin writing your prediction about the book. Use the sentence starter:
I predict The One and Only Ivan is about _____________. I think this because ____________________.
Set up Prediction Pages in Journals
We are going to predict before reading each day, so we need to set up our prediction pages. Since the chapters are so short, we will read this book in sections. I already divided the book up into sections.
We will write the page numbers and then the sentence starter,
"I predict this section will be about. . . "
Skip two lines between each sentence starter
We will start right below our prediction about the whole book.
Do this for the following chunks of text: pgs. 1-20, pgs. 21-39, pgs. 40-59, pgs. 60-82, pgs. 83-98, pgs. 99-122, pgs. 123-146, pgs. 147-171, pgs. 172-192, pgs. 193-220, pgs. 221-236, pgs. 237-258, pgs. 259-278, pgs. 279-300.
Now add the pages for our predictions to our table of contents.
Before you read that section you will write your prediction on the skipped lines.
